OIC awards multiple scholarships to member states including Pakistan

In an effort to support research and development in virology and vaccine technology, ten fellowships have been awarded to scientists from eight member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Health in Jakarta, Indonesia, marked a major milestone in the advancing scientific cooperation among the OIC nations.

These prestigious fellowships were awarded under the Comstech Fellowships Program for Research and Advanced Training in Virology and Vaccine Technologies, a joint initiative involving the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Bio-Farma, Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) and Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), with with the support of the Embassy of Indonesia in Pakistan.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including H.E. Ambassador Askar Mussinov, Deputy Secretary General (S&T) of the OIC, who commended Comstech's leadership for supporting scientific and technological capacity building within the OIC. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, General Coordinator of Comstech, expressed his happiness that the program is flourishing for two consecutive years.

He emphasized that this year's fellows, emerging scientists, virologists and public health researchers, represent a collaborative effort to harness Indonesia's expertise in virology and vaccine technology.

Prof. Choudhary emphasized the importance of these fellowships in strengthening research and development capacity among promising scientists, facilitating international collaboration and collective work to achieve the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Ambassador Adam Tugio, ambassadors of OIC member states and representatives of UNPAD, UNAIR and BioFarma. This initiative exemplifies the OIC's commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and global health.

1-Scholarship Description: Fulbright Master's and Doctoral Program

Fulbright Master's and Doctoral Program provides funding for graduate study in the United States and is sponsored by the United States Department of State.
