PTI chief Imran Khan was arrested by Rangers officials from Islamabad Judicial Complex today, IG Islamabad confirmed.
The former prime minister was arrested in the Al-Qadir Trust case, a senior police officer of the federal capital added. "Situation is normal. Section 144 is in place and violation will result in police action," said IG Islamabad.
Islamabad High Court (IHC) CJ Aamer Farooq took cognizance of the incident and summoned IG Islamabad, Interior Secretary and Additional Attorney General.
Justice Farooq ordered to immediately inform the court about who was behind the arrest and in what case the PTI chief was arrested. The judge insisted that action would be taken "even if action has to be taken against ministers". According to IG Islamabad, Imran was taken to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office in Rawalpindi.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said the ousted prime minister had failed to appear in court despite notices to hear the land transfer case of Al-Qadir Trust - for which Imran and his wife were believed to be trustees. "[NAB] arrested him for damaging the exchequer. No violence was committed against them," he added.
The former prime minister was arrested on the premises of the IHC where he appeared for the hearing of cases related to incitement to sedition and violence against PML-N leader Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha.
A Reuters witness said that shortly after Imran entered the gate of the IHC, contingents of paramilitary forces and armored personnel carriers entered behind him.
The gate was blocked by armored vehicles while the former prime minister was led away shortly after under heavy security, the witness added. PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry also said the IHC was manned by Rangers, "lawyers were subjected to torture" and Imran's car was surrounded. PTI chairman took to unknown destination said by PTI senior leader fawad chuadhry.
PTI workers blocked different roads in major cities of Pakistan like Lahore, Karachi, islamabad and DGK, multan.
