It is always believed that only Amazon KDP could make me a full-time income as a writer. I believed it for last 5 years. Later, I took my Kindle Unlimited eBooks and self-published them on various platforms mentioned below.

Amazon KDP covers almost 70% of readers. However, there are several other platforms that are trying to reach new geographies.

1. Kobo is famous in Canada.

2. KDP covers 90% of US members.

3. Barnes and Noble for USA and so on.

4. Amazon Kindle

5. Gumroad

One book. Multiple streams of income

As countries change, so do their preferences.

love to use Amazon KDP and Kobo. And now buy e-books from Gumroad and print from Amazon. So there have different tastes when it comes to buying books.

Conclusion:

The best thing about writing ebooks is that you can sell them on marketplaces or through your website. Or you can do both! But try to focus on either one when marketing your ebooks. Too many purchase options can confuse your readers.

If you ask me where to start, then I highly recommend selling directly to your audience. There are many options available. So don't expect a miracle to happen. Don't wait for any alien ideas.
