In a blog post published Thursday, Google said that The decision to add 110 new languages to Google Translate by Google est move is the biggest yet in language expansion. So far, Google Translate has had 133 languages, and this number will increase to 243 with the addition.
According to Google, the newly added languages are spoken by more than 614 million people worldwide, representing about 8 percent of the world's population. While the number of speakers of some languages is more than 10 million.
About 25 percent of new languages originate in Africa. New African languages to be added include Fon, Kikongo, Luo, Ga, Swati, Venda and Wolof.
Google said Cantonese was the most requested to be included, but its characters overlap with Mandarin.
